 Guldenstern in Berlin: In der Galerie Mensing „Unter den Linden“ eröffnet das Pop-Art-Duo Guldenstern am 5. Mai 2012 eine Ausstellung mit ihren neuen Werken, die den Mythos Amerika thematisieren. Guldenstern gelten seit gut einem Jahrzehnt als die Botschafter der deutschen Pop-Art, die mit ihrer Kunst der Mediengesellschaft gewissermaßen den Spiegel vor Augen halten, in dem es Erstaunliches zu sehen gibt. Ihre ausdrucksstarken Collagen und Mixed-Media-Bilder sind im besten Sinne gelebte Pop-Art, die ihre Themen und Motive im Ikonenkult der Mediengesellschaft und dem bunten Treiben der großen Metropolen findet. Guldenstern verknüpft, wählt Ausschnitte, collagiert und erzählt so seine ganz eigenen, einzigartigen Storys.
Neue Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten ergeben sich durch das Experiment mit den unterschiedlichsten Materialien: von der groben Holzplatte, über farbige Plexiglasscheiben bis hin zum gebürsteten Metall. Zahlreiche Guldenstern-Ausstellungen der letzten Jahre belegen die Beliebtheit der beiden Pop-Art-Stars. Die Werke von Guldenstern befinden sich weltweit in namhaften privaten Sammlungen und werden unter anderem im Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York ausgestellt.

Armory Show New York 2012

Von 8. bis 11.3.2012 findet die Kunstmesse The Armory Show New York statt. Die 14. Auflage der Armory Show hat sich einer markanten Neudefinition unterzogen. Die anstehende Premiere der Frieze Art Fair New York im Mai, die 160 führende Galerien und so glänzende Namen wie Gagosian und Hauser & Wirth verpflichten konnte, beschleunigte den längst überfälligen Erneuerungsprozess der Kunstmesse im Angesicht der britsichen Herausforderung. Die Armory Show 2012 zeigt 224 internationale Galerien, deutlich weniger als im Vorjahr.


Zur Armory Show gibt es nun auch einen virtuellen Zugang: Über die neuen Online-Kunstplattform www.Paddle8.com können Sammler bis 18. März durch das Angebot von rund 120 Ausstellern der Armory surfen und online Kunstwerke kaufen.
Während der Armory Show finden in New York auch wieder zahlreiche Satellitenmessen wie z.B. die Scope Art Show statt. Nicht wenige der Armory-Aussteller zeigen auf mehreren Shows, etwa der 24. Art Show der Art Dealers Association of America oder der erfolgreichen Newcomer-Kunstmesse Independent. Zum ersten Mal finden New City Art Fair mit zeitgenössischer japanischer Kunst und die Spring/Break Art Show ("New York City's first curator-driven art fair) statt.

Claes Oldenburg - The Sixties im mumok Wien

Das Museum Moderner Kunst (mumok) Wien zeigt von 4.2.-28.5.2012 die Ausstellung "Claes Oldenburg - The Sixties".

Claes Oldenburg ist als der Hauptvertreter der Pop Art mit seinen humorvollen wie tiefgründigen Darstellungen von Alltagsobjekten einer der wichtigsten und populärsten Künstler. Zentraler Bezugspunkt von Oldenburgs Werk ist das industriell gefertigte Objekt - das Objekt als Ware, die in immer neuen medialen und formalen Metamorphosen zum kulturellen Träger und Symbol von Imaginationen, Wünschen und Obsessionen in der modernen Lebenswelt wird.

Das mumok Wien präsentiert mit "The Sixties" die bisher umfangreichste Ausstellung von Oldenburgs wegweisendem Frühwerk der 60er-Jahre. Zu sehen sind zahlreiche Ikonen der Pop Art: angefangen von der Installation "The Street" mit ihren von Graffiti inspirierten Darstellungen des modernen Großstadtlebens, zu den berühmten Konsumartikeln seines Geschäftslokals "The Store" bis hin zu den spektakulären Gebrauchsgegenständen: Telefon, Toilettenschüssel, Badewanne, Ventilator, Säge, Lichtschalter. Ein weiteres Kapitel widmet sich Oldenburgs ersten Entwürfen von kolossalen Monumenten seiner Konsum-Objekte für den öffentlichen Raum. Den Schlusspunkt der Ausstellung bildet das Mouse Museum, ein begehbares Miniaturmuseum in Form einer Geometric Mouse, für das Claes Oldenburg seit den späten 50er-Jahren 385 Gegenstände gesammelt hat. Mit seinen Souvenirs, Kitschobjekten und Ateliermodellen zeigt das Mouse Museum die ungeheure kulturelle Vielfalt – aber auch Abgründigkeit – der kapitalistischen Gesellschaft. Die Geometric Mouse, zentrales Motiv im Werk des Künstlers, repräsentiert mit ihrer Reduktion auf abstrakte Grundfiguren der Formfindung nicht nur eine Verschränkung von Hochkunst und Trivialkultur, sie fungiert auch als ein Alter ego Oldenburgs.

Miami’s longest running contemporary art fair, Art Miami will run from November 30 - December 4, 2011. As the anchor art fair to the city of Miami, the Art Miami fair will return with a compelling array of modern and contemporary artwork from over 110 international galleries and prominent art institutions. Art Miami will be held in a state-of-the-art 125,000 square foot pavilion in Midtown Miami’s burgeoning Wynwood Arts District. Art Miami has grown to include more than 110 galleries from 18 countries, and will showcase 1,000 artists from 60 countries around the world. From the United States, 400 artists will be shown from nearly 100 cities.
